Friday First Look – 18th Great Northwest Nationals in Spokane

The beginning of a three-week swing for Goodguys kicks off this weekend with the opening day of the 18th Great Northwest Nationals held at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center. After a fun day of hot rod shop cruising yesterday visiting Whipple Motorsports, Cruisers Bar & Grill, Fast Eddies Race Cars & Hot Rods, and ending the day with a kickoff party at River City Speed & Kustom we were all eager to get the weekend rolling in high gear.

The Inland Empire hot rodders showed out in great numbers today after what started as a misty morning and continued into the afternoon. With the color and chrome on display outside there was equal eye candy indoors with a massive indoor car show spanning three buildings which was joined with indoor industry manufactures, an impressive pinstripers brush bash, fun activities for the kids, a boomin’ model car show, and the popular Goodgals Gallery.

Tomorrow guarantees more action with two Nitro Thunderfest sessions, a burnout competition, and live entertainment from The Pop Offs at the Tim Lane State Farm stage. Stay tuned to the Goodguys social media outlets for more throughout the weekend. Until then, check out this jammed packed gallery of some fine rides here in Spokane we spotted during day one!

Director of Media & Marketing

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
