At the bottom of this article, we have included portraits of every car in competition this year. You won’t be disappointed so keep scrolling!

Goodguys has selected this award since 1999. The first winner, Dennis Marchand, won the cup with his Pro Street 1956 Chevy. Since then, the award has evolved from whining blowers, parachutes and meaty tires to razer sharp handling Pro-Touring beasts. Muscle cars were never meant to corner but thanks to the burgeoning suspension wave, these mega muscle cars handle better and will outrun even the fastest European Sports cars.

The Goodguys PPG Nationals is one of our favorite Goodguys events of the year and its easy to see why. The best builders, the best cars and the latest trends are on display here. Plus, there are 6,000 vintage cars packing the Ohio Expo Center and nearly 500 vendors packing the halls and midway.

Here is a drilled down look at the essentials for winning Street machine of the Year here in Columbus.

The Street Machine of the Year Breakdown

Who’s Eligible: Street machines 1954 through 1987 vintage

The Entry Criteria: All award candidates parked in a special lot this morning, got checked in then ran the mandatory a two-lap Goodguys AutoCross Friday afternoon. The AutoCross lap times do not determine the overall winner, but style points do count! It’s very competitive and refreshing to see these non “Trailer Queens” put their super cars through their paces, stretching their legs and seeing how their suspension set ups work in a hi-performance setting.

What the Judging Committee Looks For: This award is designed for a cutting edge Street Machine which combines masterful build quality with extreme performance. Quality of craftsmanship, body & paint, overall engineering, the three F’s (fit, form & functionality) stance, and overall creativity in design and concept is what the selection committee will seek.

Senior Editor, Digital Media

With three decades of automotive journalism under his belt, John Drummond serves as Senior Editor – Digital Media for Fuel Curve and Goodguys Rod & Custom Association where he has worked since 1990. Drummond got his start in motorsports reporting by making a fake press pass to gain starting line access. The ruse worked and he began covering auto races as far back as 1986 in Northern California, eventually getting his stories published worldwide. He has owned and driven everything from a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere to a ridiculously modded Subaru WRX as well as a string of Mercedes AMG’s, most of which had the warranties voided the day after leaving the dealership.
