Goodguys 2021 Season comes to an end at the 24th Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals presented by Barrett-Jackson this weekend!

After a year of uncertainty, the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association 2021 season certainly delivered producing 16 action-packed events from coast-to-coast and it wraps up this weekend with event number 17 in Scottsdale, Arizona and the 24th running of the Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals presented by Barrett-Jackson at WestWorld of Scottsdale November 19-21, 2021.

The Southwest Nationals event is the annual conclusion of each Goodguys season and caps the year on a high note. Goodguys highlights their Meguiar’s Top 12 award winners – winners who received high accolades throughout the season in a range of respective categories – and they upped the ante in 2021 by including three more vehicles and awards into the mix with the Chevrolet Performance GM Iron and GM Retro Iron Builders of the Year, as well as the Goolsby Customs Next Generation National Champion.

Of those Top 12 Award Winners there is still one yet to be crowned – the 2021 CPP AutoCrosser of the Year title will be decided from the Duel in the Desert AutoCross shootout taking place Saturday evening. 32 drivers will vie for the Dual in the Desert shootout victory, and $3,000 grand prize, but only five drivers are eligible for the 2021 CPP AutoCrosser of the Year title based on the 2021 rules stating: in order to qualify, the racers must compete in a minimum of five event shootouts throughout the season with the same car that qualifies for the Duel in the Desert. Those five eligible drivers are Josh Leisinger (PX), Robby Unser (PX), Mike Ahlstrom (PX), Ron Scott Jr. (PRO), and Bill Graves Sr. (SM).

By this time most everyone knows the typical 2:22pm time for the Sunday Awards Ceremony at all Goodguys National events, but you’ll also want to remember 2pm and 3pm this Saturday at the Southwest Nationals event. At 2pm there will be a presentation at the Awards Stage by Chevrolet Performance for their two Builder of the Year award winners recognizing Bobby Alloway (GM Iron) and Roger Burman (GM Retro Iron) and their builds.

Shortly thereafter, make your way to the Speedway Motors vendor booth by 3pm for a special vehicle unveiling with the cast from television series Car Masters: Rust to Riches and Gotham Garage for a vehicle unveil like no other!

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
