Goodguys Returns to Salt Lake City May 21-23 for the 2nd RaceDeck Salt Lake Nationals

Goodguys Rod and Custom Association is making a return to Salt Lake City with the 2nd RaceDeck Salt Lake Nationals going down at the Utah State Fairpark May 21-23, 2021. The 1st Salt Lake Nationals was one of just three events Goodguys was able to host in 2020 on a rescheduled July date, and the long-term outlook looks strong for this destination event!

Nestled in downtown Salt Lake City with the Wasatch Mountains providing a scenic view off in the distance, the Utah State Fairpark is a modern facility in a historical setting. It is a perfect venue for an outdoor Goodguys event with plenty of grass parking lined with shade trees, multiple buildings available for indoor show cars, vendors, and swap meet sellers, tons of great at-event food and beverage options, and just a great laid-back vibe to gather Cool Cars and Cool People for some Good Times.

Kicking things off on Thursday will be a scenic Hot Rod Cruise that will visit local national parks. The cruise has no additional charge and is open to all registered participants. The group will depart from the event registration building at 11am and will end at RaceDeck around 3pm for the official Kickoff Party. The RaceDeck party will run from 3-6pm and will include food trucks, live music by DJ Hackett, and shop tours through the facility.

Tons of talent call Utah home including one of the most bitchin’ shops of them all – Kindig-It Designs. That’s right, the Bitchin’ Rides duo of Dave Kindig and Kevin “Kevdogg” Schiele will be on-site at the 2nd Salt Lake Nationals making the Top 10 Builders Choice picks yet again. If your rides catches their eye…you know it’s certified bitchin’! The Kindig-It display rig will also be at the event with merchandise available for purchase, and the crew will have some of their latest builds on display.

In addition to the Kindig Top 10 Builders Choice awards, Goodguys will be handing out some major hardware by selecting finalists for the LMC Truck of the Year Late running as well as the Billet Specialties Muscle Car of the Year category. Two finalists will also be chosen for the Chevrolet Performance Builder of the Year titles – an exciting new award for 2021 that comes with some serious perks for the overall winners.

We also have confirmation that RaceDeck will have a slew of house cars at the event and a couple vendor booths set up talking all things garage flooring. If you’re looking for that “wow factor” in your garage, go chat with the folks at RaceDeck. Their flooring is backed by a 20-year limited warranty, can be easily self-installed in less than one day, is slip resistant when wet, and can be customized to your liking, on top of so many other great benefits!

Speaking of AutoCross, the track will be moved from its 2020 location to the main event area which will be a benefit for both the racers competing, and the spectators who want to enjoy the high revving action on the sidelines.

The 2nd RaceDeck Salt Lake Nationals will have the full lineup of a regular Goodguys event – Saturday specialty parking areas, industry leading Vendors on display, Nitro Thunderfest sound offs, fun activities for the kids including the popular Auto World Take and Make model car program, live music, and don’t forget about Meguiar’s All American Sunday and All American AutoCross where those late model American-made or American-powered rides are welcomed into the mix.

Goodguys received word earlier this week that the state of Utah will be relaxing their COVID-19 guidelines and lifting their mask mandate for the outdoor portions of our event. We still urge that everyone practice social distancing, regularly wash and sanitize your hands, stay home if you are feeling ill in any way, and just be mindful of others in attendance. Masks will be required to be worn inside all buildings during the event.

Director of Media & Marketing

A lifelong car kid, Steven grew up around drag strips – his name may sound familiar because his grandfather is Bob Bunker, a Pro Mod pioneer who piloted the “Folsom Flash” ’55 Chevy from the ’70s through the ’90s. Steven’s father, Bob Bunker Jr., heads up Bunker Motorsports and is a regular in the West Coast racing scene, building chassis and race cars for more than 30 years. With genetics like that, it’s no wonder Steven has a passion for both cars and motorsports. In addition to helping his father and honing his fabrication skills at Bunker Motorsports, Steven began shooting photos at the drag strip and capturing the action with his Canon camera. He is now artfully crafting stories around the awesome machines at the shows, as well as the men and women behind them. When he's is not on the road covering events, he spends his downtime out on the water fishing, building his 1962 Chevy Nova, or cruising his 1987 GMC Suburban.
